Today a friend of mine passed by our center. He had his index finger operated on last week and he told me the pain he felt was indescribable- he has a bacterial infection (May Allah grant him quick recovery).
He has been sick before but the most amazing thing, he says, is that this time it’s only his index finger but he feels like his whole body is a mess. Says that we may walk with our heads held up high while in a state of good heallth but once you get ill you will realise how weak and fragile and dispensable you are!
It reminded me of the Qur’an verse in Surat Al Insan (Man):
“Has there not been over man a period of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning?
Verily, We have created man from Nutfah (drops) of mixed semen, in order to try him; so We made him hearer and seer. [Verse 1 and 2]
Man may walk the world ascribing partners to Allah (swt), boasting that he is mighty in stature and wealth and children, but he came from nothing; just a sperm drop that if it (the drop) was to come into contact with your body, you cannot pray till you take Ghusl, something that at best is Najis.
The story from my friend also reminded me of the hadith of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on the unity of Muslims:
Prophet Muhammad (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The similitude of believers in regard to mutual love, affection, fellow-feeling is that of one body; when any limb of it aches, the whole body aches, because of sleeplessness and fever.” [Muslim]
It got me thinking, we are so deluded by the glitter of this world, yet we came from nothing, found this Dunya here and we will leave it here, we will actually start a life UNDERNEATH it! Yet we forget that the Muslim Ummah is one body, when one part hurts, we should all feel the pain……
May Allah grant the Muslim Ummah unity and love.
